Crossover Cases
Illustration & Product Design | Ryland Smith

Project Overview
Crossover explores the intersection of custom phone cases through an illustration-driven visual system. The project focused on developing a distinctive visual language that could translate an abstract concept into a tangible product experience.
The Challenge
Translate the central concept into a visual system that feels immediately recognizable while remaining flexible enough to work across illustration and product applications.
Inspiration
Each customer submitted photo was direct inspiration for the resulting vector artwork. High quality sports-focused vector artwork with mid-level detail served as an important reference for my own style.

Illustration Method
Early exploration focused on identifying the strongest visual metaphor for the concept. Several directions were developed before the final approach was selected based on clarity, visual distinctiveness, and its ability to translate across applications. No AI was used.

From Concept to Product
The illustration was developed with physical application in mind, ensuring that the composition could function both as an independent graphic and as part of the final product design.

The Outcome
The final system translated the original concept into a distinctive visual identity that could function across illustration, product, and promotional applications.
